SMAT

SMAT (Advanced Land Observation System) is the project brought by a Temporary Association (ATS) owned by DigiSky, headed by Alenia Aeronautica has been selected as a Aerospace Technology Platforms subject of recent Call issued by the Piedmont Region for the funding of research and Innovation. The project is sponsored by the Organizing Committee Piedmont Aerospace District and is co-financed by funds European regional developments under the operational program 2007/2013.

SMAT the project as a whole is to study and demonstrate a surveillance system to support the phases of prevention and control of a wide range of events, such as floods, fires, landslides, traffic, urban planning, pollution and crops, which will operate integrated into organizational structures already in place at institutional or commercial and will be able to provide information timely and updated information to the authorities responsible for managing such events or other type of end user.



The current project SMAT-F1 is the first phase of the total project.

SMAT-F1 focused on the demonstration of integrated of the three UAV platforms within a primary operating scenario, relevant to the Piedmont Region.

The objectives of SMAT-F1 can be summarized as follows:

  • define the requirements for a surveillance system based on UAS, multi-platform, modular and scalable to different types of scenario, mission and end users; 
  • design and develop the station and Supervision Coordination (SS & C) to be the core architecture of SMAT and allow operators to receive information from the UAS specific mission / task, providing support in data processing and issue specific requests from operators to the UAS
    concerned; 
  • integrate the various stations for the control of UAV platforms with the supervision and coordination to ensure a management system as a whole but not efficient weighted the operational aspects of command, control and management of the payload single UAV platforms; 
  • demonstrate the operation of the system as a whole on a scenario / mission representative, compatible with the resources available at this early stage, working in synergy and integrated UAV platforms, but not necessarily contemporary, function even in the scenario / mission chosen.
